Formans Brothers’ Theatre: Aladin

The family theater production “Aladdin” invites you into the world of the tales of “One Thousand and One Nights.” It tells the colorful story of the boy Aladdin, which intertwines with the tale of King Shahryar and the brave and wise Scheherazade. Before the audience’s eyes unfolds an exotic world, fragrant with the scent of distant lands, filled with wandering nomads, wise viziers, mysterious places, gardens, and palaces brimming with the wealth of powerful rulers and kings. Aladdin, a poor teenage boy, miraculously becomes rich thanks to a magic lamp he has acquired. With the help of a genie who grants his every wish, he becomes the owner of a magnificent palace, to which he also brings his new love—Princess Badralbudur. However, the happiness brought about by the magic and power of the lamp seems fleeting and uncertain. In a battle against a powerful sorcerer who has sought the lamp from the very beginning of the story and intends to seize it at any cost, young Aladdin must ultimately rely on what no magic can provide—his courage, the love of Princess Badralbudur, and the loyalty of the little camel, a friend he meets during his journey.

Matěj Forman, together with his creative team, has created a magical performance in which, through the use of puppets, shadow play, visual sets, and evocative voices and music, caravans of camels come to life, the gates of a magnificent palace swing open, and a vast desert landscape stretches out beneath a star-filled sky. This family-friendly performance uses every means possible to transport both children and adults to places where, at the very edge of imagination, a journey begins—and with it, a great adventure.
